The hacked body of a farmer was found inside his house at Majhpara village under Baufal upazila of the district early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam Khan, 40, of the village, said Md Monirul islam, officer-in-charge of Baufal Police Station.

Criminals entered the room of Rina Begum, 28, sister of Kalam, at midnight. Hearing screams, the victim, who was sleeping beside the next room, rushed there, said police and family members.

At the time, the gang hacked him, leaving him dead on the spot. They also attacked Rina with sharp weapons, leaving her seriously injured. She was rushed to the upazila health complex.

On information, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Patuakhali Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC.

Later, a case was filed in connection with the incident, he said.

They will take legal action against the culprits after investigating the matter, said the police official.
