Crime is proved beyond doubt

Charges against the five accused in Rupa Khatun rape and murder case were pressed after getting proofs beyond doubt, the investigation officer (IO) of the case said in his deposition to the court yesterday.

The Court of Abul Mansur Miah, acting judge of Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, yesterday recorded deposition of three witnesses, including IO of the case Kaiyum Khan Siddique, then working in Madhupur of Tangail, and present officer-in-charge of Bhuapur Police Station.

The IO said he recovered Rupa's body from Pachishmile area beside Tangail-Mymensingh road in Madhupur upazila and made the surothal (inquest) report on August 25 and family members on August 28 identified the body as Rupa's.

On August 29, he arrested five staff of a passenger bus -- supervisor Safar Ali, driver Habib and helpers Jahangir, Akram and Shamim, in connection with the case for gang rape and murder of law student Rupa Khatun on a moving bus in Madhupur on August 25.

“I recovered Rupa's mobile set from Shamim's house as per his confession and her vanity bag from Madhupur forest as per confession of Habib the same day,” the IO told the court.

“The accused gave confessional statements to senior judicial magistrates in Tangail willingly under Section 164 on August 29 and 30.

“After getting the autopsy report of Rupa and a DNA test report of her cloths, I later submitted the charge sheet against the accused to the court on October 15,” he said.
