Court accepts charge sheets against 84 in two cases
A Pabna court yesterday accepted three charge sheets in two cases in connection with the gruesome attack on Hindus at Bonogram in Santhia upazila under Pabna on November 2 in 2013.
Spreading rumour about maligning Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) through a Facebook page allegedly posted by local boy Rajib Shah, a group of people attacked the Hindus in the area, leaving 33 houses, 10 shops and seven temples damaged in three villages of Bonogram that day.
Three separate cases were filed in connection with the incidents.
Rajib's father Bablu Shah filed a case for attacking and looting his house while police filed two cases -- one for attack on cops and the other for maligning the Prophet in Facebook.
“After investigation police submitted three charge sheets in two of the three cases. The Judicial Magistrate's Court-4 accepted the charge sheets today [Sunday]," said court sub inspector Md Borhan.
Md Monirul Karim Khan, sub inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police, submitted the two charge sheets -- one under Information Technology Act and the other under Pornography Act, accusing 10 people for plotting the maligning of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) through a fake Facebook page, court sources said.
Ten people accused in each of the two charge sheets are Khokon, Ali Hossain, Nur Ali, Hatem Ali, Amimul Ehsan, Jahirul Islam, Selim Hossain, Fazlu alias Fazlu Khan, Kawsar Habib Sweet and Manik. They hail from different areas of Bonogram.
“The accused planned maligning the Prophet with a view to attacking and looting the Hindu's houses,” the investigation officer stated in the charge sheet.
Shahaz Uddin, sub inspector of Ataikula police station, submitted another charge sheet accusing 74 people, including 29 absconding ones, for attack on cops and causing hindrance when they rushed to control the situation at Bonogram.
Meanwhile, Babul Shah's case for attack on his house is still under investigation of Criminal Investigation Department, sources said.
