Cop action lands driver in hospital
A bus driver landed in hospital as a police constable hit him on the head with a wireless handset at Manikganj bus stand yesterday.
The victim, Sona Mia, 38, son of Niyat Ali of Chandail in Dhamrai upazila, is a driver of Jatri Seba Paribahan.
"On the way to Paturia from Gabtali in the capital, I stopped the bus at Manikganj bus stand. But there was a traffic jam as a coach and a motorbike were parked on the road. At that time, a man got on my bus and hit me on the head with a wireless set," Sona Mia said.
The driver's helper Shamsul said, "Our bus stopped at Manikganj bus stand for passengers around 10:30am when plainclothes police constable Nakibul Islam hurled abuse at Sona Mia. He also hit him on the head with a wireless handset, causing it to bleed. Locals admitted him to Manikganj Sadar Hospital."
Referring to constable Nokibul Islam, Kazi Faruk Hossain, reserve police inspector of Manikganj Police Lines, said, "The bus hit his motorcycle at Manikganj bus stand. He rebuked the driver for his reckless driving and Sona Mia, the bus driver, got aggrieved. The constable slapped the driver and the latter was injured."
