Clinic vandalised after patient dies

Local people, including relatives of a pregnant woman, yesterday vandalised a clinic following her death allegedly for wrong treatment in Kaliganj upazila headquarters of the district.

The deceased was Aklima Khatun, 35, wife of Mazedul Islam of Arapara village in the upazila.

Aklima's elder brother Masudur Rahman said his sister was rushed to Hasna Clinic with labour pain on Friday morning.

She was operated upon in the afternoon, but died yesterday due to wrong treatment by the physician. However, Aklima gave birth to a baby boy, he said.

Masudur said as Aklima started bleeding severely, they informed Dr Pratap Kumar, on-duty nurses and owner of the clinic Abdur Rahman about the matter. But no one of the clinic responded to their appeal. Aklima died around 11:30am yesterday.

As the news of her death spread, locals and relatives of Aklima ransacked the clinic, said police.

Despite repeated calls, this correspondent could not reach the doctor and the owner of the clinic for their comments on the issue as their cellphones remained switched off.

Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Police Station Mizanur Rahman said they will take action after getting written complaint.
