Class boycott until criminals' arrest
Students at an agitation programme yesterday said they will continue their demonstration and class boycott until the arrest of the attackers of headmaster Manoranjon Roy at Haridev Doyez Uddin High School in Sadar upazila.
On Tuesday, Manoranjon, 52, was assaulted allegedly by some Awami League men for refusing to help recruit their candidate as a teacher of the school.
The students of the school boycotted their classes for two hours since 10:00am yesterday and held a demonstration, demanding arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers.
Quoting Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Rafiqul Islam, Shah Alam, a teacher of the school, said police assured them that the attackers will be arrested by today.
“We the teachers become very much upset as police are yet to arrest any of the attackers 24 hours into the incident,” he said, adding that students' protest will continue on the school premises until their demand is not met.
District Education Officer Abu Ashraf Noor assured the teachers and students the attackers of the headmaster must be brought to book.
Police are raiding different areas to arrest the attackers, said the OC.
Some eight to 10 attackers, led by AL man Abu Siddique of Haridev village, who was earlier involved in BNP politics, entered the headmaster's room around 10:45am and started beating him up. They had sticks and iron rods, said Shah Alam.
