Chairman aspirant's camp torched, 3 injured
An election camp of a ruling Awami League (AL) candidate was burnt in Khatteshwar Raninagar union under Raninagar upazila while three men of the party were injured during a clash between the supporters of AL and BNP in Mohadebpur upazila of Naogaon district yesterday.
Police said some unidentified people burnt the election camp of Asaduzzaman Pintu, who is contesting for chairman post in the union parishad election, at Lohachura Hatkhola village around 2:00am. Election in the union will be held on May 28.
A case was filed in this connection, said Abdul Latif Khan, officer-in-charge of Raninagar Police Station.
In Mohadebpur upazila, three ruling party men were injured during a clash between supporters of the AL and BNP nominated chairman candidates of Safapur union.
Locals said supporters of AL nominated chairman candidate Moynul Haque were campaigning in Jighatola area in the morning. All of a sudden, the supporters of Samsul Alam Bachhu, a BNP nominated chairman aspirant, attacked them, triggering a clash.
Injured Sharaful Islam, Sekendar Ali and Solaiman Ali were admitted to Naogaon Sadar Hospital, said Saber Ali, officer-in-charge of Mohadebpur Police Station.
Election in all unions of the upazila will be held on June 4.
