Cattle trader injured in BSF firing
A cattle trader was shot by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) near Johorpur frontier under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila yesterday.
The injured cattle trader is Jahangir Alam, 30, son of Nazrul Islam of Satroshia village in the upazila.
Lt Col Ahmed Junaed Alam Khan, commanding officer (CO) of BGB 9-Battalion in Chapainawabganj, and locals said BSF personnel opened fire when Jahangir was returning to Bangladesh along with cattle in the morning.
Jahangir was hit by a rubber bullet, but managed to escape arrest. He returned to Bangladesh and took treatment secretly, they added.
Meanwhile, BGB men detained two cattle traders along with cattle on Hakimpur border in the same upazila yesterday.
The arrestees are Mohammad Sumon, 27, son of Mohammad Yeasin, and Abdul Karim, 26, son of Abdul Mannan of Char Raninagar village under the upazila.
Lt Col Ahmed Junaed said a BGB team from Hakimpur border observation post went to Hakimpur-Padma Char area near pillar No 35 at around 9:00am and arrested cattle traders Sumon and Karim while they were carrying two cattle from India.
