A homemaker sustained serious burn injuries on the face, head, chest and right hand due to an arson attack at Brindabanpara (South) of Bogrua town on Friday.
The victim, Shahanaz Parvin Sima, 38, wife of Abdur Rahman, is now undergoing treatment in the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
An attempted murder case was filed accusing Turu Islam Tutul, 45, son of late Md Sobed Ali, of South Brindabanpara of the town, on Friday night, said Md Emdad Hosain, officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar Police Station.
“Police seized a bottle of kerosene from the spot. We are investigating the matter and trying to arrest the accused,” he said.
“Tutul made an arson attack on Shahanaz around 2:30pm on Friday, following a previous feud over land purchase,” said Manzurul Islam, brother-in-law (husband's brother) of the victim.
“My brother Abdur Rahman works as a construction worker in Dubai. He and his wife Shahanaz paid all the money for the land, but Tutul wanted more money. As Shahanaz refused to give additional money, Tutul become angry,” he added.
Victim Shahanaz Parvin Sima was taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital around 3:30pm.
“We referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as she sustained 55 percent corrosive burn injury and we do not have special treatment facilities for such critical burn injury,” said Nirmalandu Chowdhury, deputy director of Bogura Saheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
