Boy abducted for Tk 50 lakh ransom

A schoolboy was abducted for Tk 50 lakh ransom at Chitholia village in Mirpur upazila on Saturday.

The victim is Dev Dutt, 9, son of Pabitra Dutt of the village.

Pabitra is an assistant teacher of Boria High School in Kushtia Sadar upazila, and joint secretary of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad's Mirpur upazila unit. 

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said two people on a motorcycle picked up the boy from the village road when he was going to his private tutor around 4:30pm.

Later, the abductors demanded Tk 50 lakh for his release, said the victim's family members.

A case was filed in this connection yesterday.

Police are trying to rescue the boy, said the OC.
