C'nawabganj raid: Bodies, suicide vest recovered
Four bodies were recovered from the one-storey house in Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj upazila this afternoon where operation “Eagle Hunt” ended yesterday.
Only one was identified to be Rafiqul Islam alias Abu, an operative of banned militant group Neo JMB, our local correspondent reports quoting police officials.
“The three other bodies have been deformed beyond recognition,” said Wares Ali, additional superintendent of police in the district. “Their DNA has been collected for identification.”
All the bodies, recovered around 1:30pm, were sent to hospital morgue.
The body recovery followed a primary sweep of the bomb disposal unit, which made sure no bombs were lying about. A suicide vest and a firearm were found inside the building.
District police Superintendent Mujahidul Islam confirmed the find but did not specify any further.
Meanwhile, a case is yet to be filed over the incident. The one-storey building in Shibnagar area was under police cordon – still off limits to journalists and locals.
Among the dead is believed to be Rafiqul Islam alias Abu, an operative of banned militant group Neo JMB, and three unidentified others. They said to have blown themselves up.
Abu’s pregnant wife and six-year-old daughter were rescued. The wife has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment, said a police official seeking anonymity.
