BNP protests gas tariff hike
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today termed the government’s decision on gas price hike as illogical and demanded its immediate withdrawal for the sake of the people.
“It is an anti-people and illogical decision. The government should withdraw the decision,” he said.
Fakhrul came up with the call hours after the government announced that the gas price will be increased 22.7 percent in two phases from March 1 and June 1 respectively. As per the new tariff, the price of household single and the double burner will be Tk 750 and Tk 800 from March 1 while Tk 900 and Tk 950 from June 1 respectively.
He also blasted the government for such decision and said the gas price has been increased only to ensure profit of some identified businessmen inside the government.
“The decision has been taken only to oppress the common people,” Fakhrul said while addressing a press conference at the party chief Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka.
