Criminals abducted a local BNP leader from Joynabad village in Kumarkhali upazila of the district on Thursday.
The abductee is Mirazul Haq alias Miraz, 46, joint secretary of Chapra union unit of BNP, and owner of Gorai brick kiln in the area.
On Friday night, the victim's wife Sakhi Khatun filed a general diary with Kumarkhali Police Station, accusing Mominur Rahman Momiz, former general secretary of Kushtia town unit of Awami League, and business partner of Miraz.
According to the GD, Momiz borrowed Tk 52 lakh from Miraz against a bank cheque last year.
But the cheque was dishonoured by Janata Bank Kushtia branch recently. Miraz then filed a case with the district chief judicial magistrate's court in this regard on May 6.
“After filing of the case, Momiz and his men continued threatening my husband with death,” said Sakhi Khatun.
On Thursday night, a gang abducted Miraz from Joynabad Bazar area when he was returning home from his brick kiln.
