BGB deployed in Dhaka, Gazipur
Paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in Dhaka and Gazipur with war criminal Mir Quasem Ali waiting to walk to the gallows in Gazipur.
Six platoons of BGB have been patrolling Dhaka since yesterday for the sake of law and order, Mohsin Reza, public relations officer of the BGB, told The Daily Star.
Quasem’s execution was confirmed yesterday, after he pushed aside the prospect of presidential mercy – the last straw that could have had saved him from the gallows.
Meanwhile, security at Kashimpur jail – which will play host to Quasem’s execution – has been beefed up as this will be the first war trial execution outside Dhaka.
Four platoons of the paramilitary BGB has been deployed in Gazipur, Reza said. “The force has been dispatched as per the demand of Gazipur deputy commissioner.”
Law enforcers formed a 200-metre perimeter around Kashimpur jail which has been made off limits to civilians. Last reported, around 50 lawmen including from elite force Rapid Action Battalion, APBN and policemen were deployed there.
