Tongi factory disaster: Death toll climbs to 29
Four more bodies were recovered this evening from Gazipur’s Tempaco Foils Limited raising the factory disaster death toll to 29 with many more missing.

As dusk settled and rescuers went to work after putting out the blaze, four more bodies came out, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting SM Alam, district’s deputy commissioner.

Fire fighters put out the blaze around 5:00pm, nearly 36 hours after the factory was engulfed in flames – what authorities blamed on a boiler explosion in the factory.
As fresh fire erupted this morning, 22 firefighting units were dispatched. After the blaze was tamed around 3:00pm, 11 firefighting units toiled to finally put out the flames before scourging operation.
Early morning yesterday, Tongi’s Tampaco factory was shaken by a huge bang that shook the neighbourhood and beyond before the factory could be last seen engulfed in giant flames.
Twety-four people lost their lives yesterday and their bodies were kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. One more died this afternoon before four bodies were found from the rubble this evening.
Fire service authorities said the explosion was caused in a boiler blast. However, boiler investigation committee rejected the claim and a survivour said the blast was caused from a gas leak.
Authorities have put out a list of 10 missing workers of the factory. However, because the four bodies could not be identified, it was yet to be ascertained as to whether the list of missing had shortened.
