Bar council punishes 5 lawyers for ‘professional misconducts’
Bangladesh Bar Council, the licensing and regulatory body for lawyers, has punished five lower court advocates for committing “professional misconducts”.
Dhaka Bar Association members Shukur Ali Gazi and Md Abus Salam and Nilphamari Bar Association member Khitish Chandra Roy have been removed from law profession forever and their lawyer-certificates have been cancelled.
Besides, Sherpur Bar Association member Golam Mohammad Babul has been suspended for 10 years and Dhaka Bar Association member Ali Abdul Baten has been suspended for three years.
The tribunal of the bar council has sentenced them as allegations brought against them have been proved, a bar council press release said today.
Shukur Ali was accused of grabbing land of one Abul Kashem Patwari by using the post of a lawyer, Abdus Slam has been accused of receiving lawyer certificate by suppressing information of discharging as Nikah registrar in violation of law, and Khitish Chandra Roy has been discharging as acting principal of Syedpur Women Degree College in Nilphamari.
The allegation was brought against Golam Mohammad Babul of refusing to refund Tk 3.05 lakh to one Abul although he (Babul) took the money as debt and of harassing Abul by making a false affidavit for grabbing his land.
Ali Abdul Baten allegedly deprived a Zannat Yeasmony Rita of her ancestral property by using the post of a lawyer, according to the press release.
