Bangladesh Navy to get 2 submarines by 2016
Two submarines would be added to the fleet of Bangladesh Navy this year. The submarines will reach Bangladesh soon and building of frigates for the navy is also under process, says Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed.
The information was disclosed when Ahmed made a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in Dhaka this afternoon, reports BSS.
Quoting Ahmed, President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told the news agency that the Navy chief informed the President about the addition of two submarines to the fleet of Bangladesh Navy.
The president asked the Navy to be more active in protecting the marine resources and maritime boundary of the country, BSS adds.
He also asked the navy to make necessary efforts for the use of the vast potential of blue economy.
The naval chief said development activities of Bangladesh Navy are going on as per 'Forces Goal 2030'. He also invited the president to attend the National Standard Conferment Ceremony to BNS Base Issa Khan of Bangladesh Navy to be held on November 8.
Secretaries concerned to the president were present.
