Hold talks with political parties: BNP
The BNP today urged the government to hold talks with the political parties to find out a way of holding a free and fair election.
“For the sake of the country’s interests, hold talks with the political parties to find out a way of holding an acceptable election to all,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He came up with the remark at a protest rally at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. BNP Dhaka (South) unit organised the rally protesting the issuance of arrest warrant against party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman.
“Come to the path of positive politics and take the decision of holding a fair election. We are not saying to hand over power to us. We are demanding to return the voting power to the people,” Fakhrul urges ruling Awami League.
Expressing doubt about the success of the Election Commission’s electoral talks with different stakeholders, Fakhrul said, “Election Commission’s talk is mere eyewash. All the stakeholders joined the talks said that it is not possible to hold a free and fair election without election-time neutral government. Now the whole nation is waiting to see what the EC does.”
