HC to decide upon fate of 20-month old boy on Jan 7
The High Court today directed the uncle and grandmother of 20-month old boy, Mousum Gain Neel, who has been away from his mother for the last eight months, to produce the child before the court on January 7 to decide whether the baby would be sent back to his mother or not.
Neel’s uncle Ripon Gain and grandmother Sushoma Gain have been ordered to produce the baby before the HC, as they have taken away the baby from its mother Farida Yeasmin Moni on April 17 this year.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty came up with the order after hearing a writ petition filed by the mother seeking its order on the respondents (Neel’s father Neuton Gain, Riponand Sushoma) to send Neel back to her.
Citing from the writ petition, Farida told The Daily Star that she married Neuton Gain, a man of Hindu religion in March 2015, who later converted to Muslim.
The family members of Neuton however did not accept their marriage and took away Neel from Farida after on April 17 this year after coming to her rented residence at Mugda area in Dhaka.
A dowry case was filed against Neuton as he demanded Tk 2 lakh from her after taking away her baby, she said, adding that she does not know where Neuton is staying now.
