Country’s first computer factory inaugurated
The country’s first full-fledged computer factory was inaugurated at Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd in Gazipur today.
Telecommunication and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the factory which had started production in September last year.
The plant was setup with a capacity of manufacturing around 60,000 laptops, 30,000 desktop computers and same numbers of monitors every month, said Liakat Ali, project in-charge of Walton computer.
Meeting the growing demand of the country, Walton also targeted to export laptops and desktops to foreign countries and going to sign a deal with Nepal government in this regard, the company officials said.
The company developed research and development centers, testing laboratory and quality control department inside the factory.
Walton invested around Tk 100 crore for setting up this plant and they have plans to spend more in future.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak along with senior officials of the country’s largest tech business conglomerate was also present at the event.
In 2010, state run company Telephone Shilpa Sangstha Limited also started a plant to assemble laptops branded as ‘DOEL’ but that got minimum response from the market.
