Shafat, Nayeem, 3 others charged with Banani rape
Police today pressed charges against five people including Ahmed Shafat and his friend Nayeem Ashraf in the Banani double rape case.
The three other accused are Ahmed Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain, bodyguard Rahmat alias Azad and associate Shadman Sakif.

Inspector Ismot Jahan Ame of victims support center, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge-sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka today, the deputy commissioner (Prosecution) at the CMM court confirmed.
In the charge-sheet, the IO said the rape charges brought against the five accused were primarily proved and they should be brought under trial.
Of the accused, Shafat, son of an Apan Jewellers owner, and three others had earlier confessed to the rape.
On May 6, one of two university girls, who were allegedly raped at a Banani hotel, filed a case with local police station against the five accused.
According to the case statement, Shafat and Nayem were accused of raping two university girls at The Raintree Dhaka hotel while Shafat's driver Billal, bodyguard Rahmat and Sakif were accused of assisting Shafat and Nayem.
Police arrested Shafat and Shadman Sakif from a house in Sylhet, five days after the rape case was filed. Later, the law enforcers arrested the three other accused.
On May 18, Shafat and Sakif gave confessional statements before two magistrates in Dhaka.
