'Arrest killers of Tanni'

People of two upazilas in the disterict yesterday demanded arrest of the killers of the female college student Taskira Haque Tanni.

They made the demand at rallies in different schools in Kamalganj and Kulaura upazilas.

Tanni, 24, wife of Rasel Ahmed, was a fourth year student of Moulvibazar Government College and hailed from Potonushar village in Kamalganj upazila.

Abdul Basit Bachchu, chairman of Hazipur Union Parishad in Kulaura upazila, said police have failed to arrest the killers although the people hoped it would make all-out efforts to bring the culprits to book.

Criticising the police, victim's father Anwarul Haque said it is very disappointing that the culprits have not been arrested yet, although more than one week has passed since the murder.

Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muktadir Hossain said police recovered the body of a female student of Moulvibazar Government College from near Gopalnagar rail crossing area in Kamalganj upazila on March 28.

Victim's brother Azizul Haque Tamim filed a murder case with Srimangal Railway Police Station two days later.

Tanni's husband and his family members used to torture her often, Tamim said.

Tamim alleged that Tanni's husband and in-laws killed her and kept the body on the railway track later. His sister was five-month pregnant, he added.

Srimangal Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Siddique said they will take action after investigation.
