Arrest of fraud 'pir' demanded
Students in Sakhipur upazila demanded arrest of a fraud 'pir' (spiritual guide) who sexually abused a boy of their school.
Several hundred students and teachers of Mohanandapur Bijoy Srmiti Uchcha Bidyalaya and local people made the demand at a human chain programme on Sakhipur-Shahargopinpur road at Mohanandapur Bazar yesterday.
Headmaster Kamrul Islam, freedom fighter Golam Mostofa, Kakrajan Union Parishad (UP) panel Chairman Joynal Abedin and Bazar Banik Samiti President Haji Osman Gani spoke at the rally.
The speakers alleged that Abdul Khalque, alias Kota Khaleque, 55, sexually abused the boy on February 21, telling him that he would get GPA-5 in the Junior School Certificate Examinations.
The victim's mother filed a case with Sakhipur Police Station accusing Khaleque a day after the incident, but police could not arrest the culprit so far, they said.
They threatened a tougher movement if the culprit is not arrested immediately.
Sakhipur municipality Councillor Delwar Shikder said Khalque had been living in the municipal area with his family for the last five years.
