Alleged rapist arrested

Police arrested a youth on Saturday on charge of raping a Class V schoolgirl in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj.

The arrestee is Ujjal Mia, 37, a neighbour of the girl.

Chunarughat Police Station OC KM Ajmiruzzaman said Ujjal was arrested from Rema-Kalenga forest area and is being interrogated.

Ujjal drugged and raped the child on May 2 and May 3, when her parents left for a wetland area in search of work, leaving the girl alone at home, locals said.

The victim suffered severe physical complications, including bleeding, following the abuse.

The victim's father filed a case over the incident on May 16, naming Ujjal as the prime accused.
