Abducted child rescued after three days

Police nabbed the kidnapper through mobile tracking

A child who was abducted three days ago was rescued yesterday morning from Taraganj upazila of Rangpur by the district Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The victim, Refat Hossain Jim, 7, son of Abdur Rashid of Tarapur village in Sundarganj upazila, was abducted from his home on July 1.

Quoting Abdur Rashid, father of the victim, Additional Superintendent of Police of PBI Anwar Hossain Mia said at a press briefing at his office yesterday that abductor Tapon Chandra Roy, 20, of Majhapara village in Rangpur Sadar upazila, went to visit Rashid's home on June 30.

Next day, when no one was at home, Tapon left the home, taking Jim with him. Rashid and other family members searched for Jim but could not find him.

Tapon called Rashid by cellphone on July 1 and demanded ransom of Tk 1lakh from him. Rashid sent Tk 5,000 through Bkash.

Rashid filed a general diary regarding his son's abduction with Sundarganj Police Station on July 2.

Later, Tapon continued to pressure Rashid for payment of the remaining money, otherwise he would take Jim to India, and also threatened him not to tell police.

Officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station sought help of PBI Gaibandha. A team of PBI tracked Tapon's mobile phone and raided Taraganj bazar. They arrested Tapon and rescued Jim from an abandoned house. Tapon was handed over to Sundarganj Police Station.
