712 sacks of VGF rice seized, 1 held
A man was arrested with 712 sacks (22 tonnes) of rice meant for Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme at his father's godown in Dimla upazila on Tuesday night.
The arrestee is Hamidul Islam, son of rice trader Safiar Rahman Akalu of Dangarhat village in the upazila.
During primary interrogation, Safiar admitted that they brought the VGF rice to the godown for sale on black market, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nazmun Nahar.
On secret information, a mobile court, led by the UNO, raided the godown and seized the rice. They also arrested Hamidul from the spot.
However, his father managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the UNO and law enforcers.
A case was filed with Dimla Police Station accusing Safiar Rahman, his son Hamidul and two others, said the UNO.
