7 JMB men indicted over Hoshi murder
A Rangpur court framed charges against seven members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) today for killing Japanese national Kunio Hoshi in Kaunia upazila of the district in October last year.
Special Judge’s Court of Noresh Chandra Sarker also fixed January 4 next year for holding the hearing in the case.
Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaunia Police Station also investigation officer of the case, filed the charge sheets against eight JMB militants on July 3 this year at a separate court the Special Judge’s Court of Judge Ariful Islam.
The case was later shifted to Rangpur District and Session Judge’s Court on October 13. After 13 days, the case was transferred again to the Special Judge’s Court.
After confirming it, public prosecutor Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmik told journalists that the investigation officer of the case pressed the charge against the JMB militants under clause no. 302 of penal code.
Police arrested five of the eight JMB militants and they are now in Rangpur jail, while another Nazrul Islam, alias Bike Nazrul was killed in a reported shootout with members of law enforcers in Rajshahi in August this year.
Other two -- Saddam Hossain and Ahsan Ullah Ansari -- are yet to be arrested.
Three gunmen shot the Japanese national to death on October 3 last year at Kochu Aluwari village in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur.
