67 resign from Manikganj BCL committee
Sixty seven activists belonging to the district committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have resigned from their posts in protest at what they said involvement of unit president Sadikul Islam Soha and general secretary Enamul Haque Rubel in extortion and anti-organisational activities.
They include vice presidents Abdullah Al Mamun, Jamil Khan Mojlish, Shariful Islam Milon, Asaduzzaman Rasel, joint secretaries Saiful Islam, Mehfuz Hasan Bappi, Rezaul Karim Khan Rony, Shamim Hasan, organising secretaries Tanvir Foysal Rahi, Hasanul Jony, Kamrul Hasan Firoj, deputy publicity secretary Shahinur Rahman Sahin, office secretary Mirza Shahin, education and study circle secretary Rajib Hasan, deputy secretary Hasmat Ullah Sujon, cultural affairs secretary Mahmud Abbas Akash, sports affairs secretary Gazi Tasfikul Huda Abir, library secretary Sajib Hossain, deputy secretary Nasim Ahmed, information and research secretary Sourav Ghosh Pappu, deputy secretary Mahdi Al Farabi, deputy student affairs secretary Maisha Hossain Tamanna, finance affairs secretary Jubayer Mahmud, deputy school student affairs secretary Sajib Sarker Bhulu, science and information technology secretary Kamrul Islam, deputy secretary Sajjad Arefin Masum, religious affairs secretary Afzal Hossain, relief and disaster management affairs secretary Ehsanul Haque Faruk, deputy secretary Milon Hossain, literature secretary Sudipta Swakkhar, human resources development affairs secretary Sajjad Hossain, deputy secretary Faruk Hossain Miru, entertainment secretary Selim Reza, deputy secretary Sujon Mia, mass communication development secretary Nahidul Islam Ridoy, four assistant secretaries and several executive members.
Contacted, Manikganj BCL president Sadikul Islam Soha and general secretary Enamul Haque Rubel said some influential leaders of Awami League, Jubo League, BCL and Sramik League forcibly took signatures from the BCL leaders for their resignation to tarnish the image of local BCL.
A large section of local leaders of ruling Awami League (AL), BCL and other pro-AL front organisations have continued agitation including procession and rally for the last couple of days protesting extortion and anti-organisational activities of the two top leaders of Manikganj BCL.
Claiming that Soha and Rubel included many 'incompetent, married, over-aged and non-student' people in the committee in exchange of huge money, the agitators urged the BCL central committee to dissolve its Manikganj district committee.
Earlier, citing different allegations against Sadikul Islam Soha and Enamul Haque Rubel, leaders of district AL and its front organisations sent a letter to party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the party's central Organisational Secretary Ahmed Hossain, also in charge to look after Manikganj AL.
Lawmaker from Manikganj-3 constituency and State Minister of Health Jahid Maleque Swapan, Manikganj district unit AL President Golam Mohiuddin, its General Secretary Abdus Salam, Manikganj municipality Mayor Md Ramzan Ali, Manikganj district sports association Secretary and former youth and sports affairs secretary of Manikganj district AL AFM Sultanul Azam Khan Apel, Manikganj district Jubo League President Sudeb Saha, Manikganj district unit Sramik League President Babul Sarker, BCL Manikganj unit former presidents Abu Bakar Siddik Khan Tusher and Rafikul Islam Chowdhury Rana, and its former secretary Mahabubul Haque Khan put signatures on the allegation letter.
On July 23 in 2015, BCL central committee approved the 152-member Manikganj district committee although it was to be a 121-member one according to organisational constitution.
On November 30 last year, Sadikul Islam Soha and Enamul Haque Rubel were selected president and general secretary of Manikganj district BCL.
