9 ‘JMB’ men held in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore
Police today claimed to have arrested nine members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Rajshahi, Naogaon and Natore districts.
Of them, five “JMB” men were arrested from Rajshahi, two each arrested from Naogaon and Natore, our local correspondents reported.
In Rajshahi, police acting on a tip-off arrested five JMB members from a mango orchard at South Sajuria village in Bagmara upazila around 2:00am when they were gathering there to hold a secret meeting, said Nasim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bagmara Police Station.
The arrestees -- Abdul Mannan, Abul Hossain, Lutfar Rahman, Rohidul Islam and Abdus Sattar -- hail from different villages of the upazila, OC Nasim told our local coorespondent.
They are all listed JMB members and accused in several criminal cases, he added.
In Naogaon, two fugitive JMB men – Khairul Islam and Abdul Mannan – were arrested from Manda upazila and Atrai upazila.
Khairul, an aide of executed JMB leader Bangla Bhai, is an accused in several cases including murder, said Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Manda Police Station.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Atrai Police Station, Mohammad Badrudduza said that Mannan was accused of several cases including extortion.
In Natore, law enforcers arrested two listed members of the banned outfit organisation from Merigasa area of Baraigram upazila early today.
The arrestees -- Shahab Uddin and Rahedul Islam – hailed from Merigasa village of the upazila, Shafiqul Islam, assistant superintendent of police (ASP Barigram circle), told our local correspondent.
They were arrested for interrogation as part of a special drive against militants, ASP Shafiqul said.
