360 posts of pry teachers vacant in Jhenidah

A total of 360 posts of teacher, including 226 head teachers, in government primary schools in all the upazilas of the district have been lying vacant for long, hampering the children's education badly.

According to District Primary Education Office in Jhenidah, posts of 226 head teachers and 134 assistant teachers at different primary schools in six upazilas of the district have been lying vacant.

As a result, a good number of school kids remained deprived of education due to the shortage of the head teachers and assistant teachers in all the upazilas of the district.

Besides, in absence of regular headmasters, assistant teachers are working as in-charge head teachers.

Of the posts, there are 43 vacant posts of head teachers and eight assistant teachers in Sadar upazila, 23 head teachers and three assistant teachers in Harinakundo upazila, 54 head teachers and 17 assistant teachers in Shailakupa upazila, 50 head teachers and 50 assistant teachers in Moheshpur upazila, 22 head teachers and 28 assistant teachers in Kotchandpur upazila and 34 head teachers and 28 assistant teachers in Kaliganj upazila.

Headmaster Mohammad Hashim of Raghunathpur Government Primary School in Kaliganj upazila said as a head teacher is the sole authority of an institution it cannot run smoothly without its guardian.

If an assistant teacher performs the duties of a head teacher children's education will be badly hampered, the headmaster said.

District Education Officer in Jhenidah Sheikh Mohammad Aktaruzzaman said if an institution suffers from shortage of head teachers or assistant teachers, schooling and education of the children are hampered seriously.
