WATCH: 3 children ‘tortured’ in Habiganj, SI closed
A sub-inspector has been closed on charge of negligence in duties over a recent incident of torturing three children in Habiganj town.
Rajkumar, an SI of Habiganj Model Police Station, was closed last night, Raselur Rahman, assistant superintendent (south) of Habiganj police, told our Moulvibazar correspondent.
The police officer rushed to the scene after hearing the incident but he did not take any measure to rescue the victims, Additional Superintendent of Habiganj police (South) Raselur Rahman told the correspondent.
Later, as per instruction of Superintendent of local police, Officer-in-charge of local police station Md Najim Uddin rescued them, he added.
The three children have been identified as Rony, 12, son of Abdul Khalek; Rubel, 13, son of Bachchu Mia; and Mahin, 12.
Mahin’s family used to live at a rented house owned by one Shah Alam.
It was alleged that Shah Alam tortured and confined the three children bringing allegation of stealing mobile phone by them Wednesday morning.
Someone recorded the scene as the entire incident took place in front of local people.
Superintendent of Police Joydev Kumar Bhadra decided to close SI Rajkumar after the video of torture was broadcasted by different private television channels and later went viral in social media.
After a case was filed with the local police station around 1:00am today, police detained Shah Alam and two others in connection with the incident.
WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS
The six-minute video which went viral shows a man torturing two of the victims with their hands and legs tied up.
The man was beating up one of them with a bamboo stick and the boy screamed, “I was not with him.”
Later police identified the torturer as Shah Alam.
