2 JMB men jailed for 20 years in C'nawabganj
A Chapainawabganj court yesterday sentenced two members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 20 years' imprisonment each in two arms cases filed in 2009.
Judge of Special Tribunal-2 Ziaur Rahman, also additional district judge, pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are Abdul Mumin, 31, son of Taiwab Ali of Kalai Diar in Gomostapur upazila, and Ramzan Ali, 31, son of Tofajjal Haque of Khorogpur-Ghonetola village in Bholahat upazila under the district.
Of them, Ramzan was tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, police arrested Mumin with five bullets, arms making materials and jihadi books from Kharagpur in Shibganj upazila on June 14 in 2009.
Later, a case was filed with Shibganj Police Station, accusing Mumin under Arms Act.
Meanwhile, police in a drive seized a gun and three bullets from Ramzan's house on June 17 the same year.
However, Ramzan fled the scene, sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
