18 madrasas lose approval
Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board (BMEB) has closed activities of 18 Dakhil (equivalent to secondary level) madrasas in Patuakhali, Bhola and Barguna due to their non-appearance in public examinations.
Seven of the madrasas are in Patuakhali, six in Bhola and five in Barguna.
No examinee from those institutions took part in public examinations in the last two years. Assistant District Education Officer Md Ruhul Amin said BMEB stopped the activities of around 200 madrasas across the country for the same reason.
BMEB issued a notice signed by its inspector on May 28 this year in this regard, saying that academic recognition (approval), online password, madrasa codes and Educational Institutions Identification Number (EIIN) of those institutions were cancelled as they failed to send examinees to appear in public examinations in 2017 and 2018, he said.
“Notices were issued to around 200 madrasas across the country on April 9 this year, asking them to submit their answer about the matter within 21 days,” he said.
BMEB also asked the authorities of those madrasas to get Dakhil level students admitted to nearby madrasas, he added.
The seven madrasas in Patuakhali do not get Monthly Payment Order (MPO) facilities, said Abu Hanif, assistant academic supervisor of Patuakhali District Education Office.
This correspondent visited Muslimpara Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque Balika Dakhil Madrasa in Patuakhali town on Monday. The institution was set up in 1941, but its activities totally stopped due to lack of proper guidance since 2005, Maulana Abdus Salam, superintendent of the madrasa said, adding that they have received a notice in this regard.
Academic activities were stopped for long, but they restarted in 2015. About 200 students are studying here from class one to ten, he said.
“We could not send examinees to the public examinations for the last two year as we had no students of the secondary level,” he said.
In 2017, five students in terminal exam (for Class V) and seven in Junior Dakhil examinations (for Class VIII) passed from this institution, Abdus Salam said, adding that they will submit a prayer to the BMEB for re-considering their decision.
