Local people beat dead 18 baby cobras in Naogaon's Niamatpur upazila on Friday and Thursday night.
The snakes, that locals claimed to be baby cobras, were found at a thatched house owned by one Morshedul Alam of Gurihari village in the upazila.
On Thursday, Morshedul's wife, who was sleeping on the floor of their house, suddenly woke up and started screaming when she spotted a snake slithering over her legs around 10:00pm.
Hearing her screams, villagers went to the spot found the snake and eight more around a rat hole of the house and beat those dead.
The next morning, locals found nine more snakes from different spots of the house and killed those as well, Morshedul's younger brother Moksedul Alam said.
Moksedul said all the snakes were between 18 to 20 inches long and were later buried in the ground.
