Police today submitted charge sheet against 56 persons including ruling Awami League leaders -- Jahangir Kabir Adel and Ziaul Alam Mister in Phulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haq murder case.
Ruling party MP and general secretary of Feni AL -- Nizam Uddin Hazari whose name was widely discussed for his alleged involvement in Ekramul murder, was given clean chit by the investigation officer causing frustration among family members and supporters of the deceased.
Local BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Minar, the only and prime accused in the case was also indicted in the murder.
An inspector of Feni Model Police Station Abul Kalam Azad submitted the charge sheet to the district court after three months of the sensational murder which took place in broad day light.
Ekram, who was also president of Phulgazi upazila AL and arch-rival of Nizam, was shot and then burnt alive in his car in Feni town on May 20 triggered criticism among cross section of people for deterioration of law and order situation.
Talking to reporters, Rezaul Haq Jashim, younger brother of Ekram and plaintiff of the case expressed their frustration for not informing them about the submission of the charge sheet.
“As the plaintiff I don’t know anything about completion of the investigation. Police did not inform me or any of our family members about the investigation process or submission of the charge sheet. I came to know this from media,” Jashim said.
After the brutal murder of Ekram Nizam Hazari blamed local BNP for the killing.
Two days after the killing, the Feni-2 MP claimed that Jainal Hazari, former AL lawmaker from the same constituency, knew about the murder.
He demanded that the police should take Jainal Hazari on remand to find out the culprits.
AL and Jubo League leaders had demonstrated against Nizam in Feni and Phulgazi. They demanded capital punishment for him, saying it was Nizam who was involved in Ekram's murder.
Daily Hazarika, a daily newspaper owned by Jainal Hazari published a report two day before Ekram’s killing that he might be killed in the hands of Nizam’s supporter.
He also claimed at that time claimed that Nizam has captured everything in Feni with support from Alauddin.
About the investigation, he said the administration had become servile to Nizam and that it would do nothing against him.
Talking about the report published in his paper, he said he knew everything in Feni and the news was based on concrete information.
