Cops not probing Faruque killing properly: BNP
Leaders and workers of BNP Tangail Sadar upazila unit formed a human chain in the town yesterday, demanding capital punishment of the killers of Rafiqul Islam Faruque, vice-president of the unit.
Faruque, also chairman of Dainna Union Parishad (UP) in Sadar upazila, was shot dead by an unidentified gang near his house in Battala area in the town on December 20 last year.
Several hundred people from different villages of Dainna union also joined the human chain on the court premises.
Addressing a rally at the venue, local BNP leaders blamed law enforcers for not investigating the Faruque murder case properly. They demanded immediate arrest of the killers who are still at large.
District BNP Vice-president Ali Imam Tapan, Organising Secretary Farhad Iqbal, Sadar upazila unit President Abdul Hamid, district Swechchasebok Dal President Ziaul Haque, district Sramik Dal General Secretary Monirul Islam, district Chhatra Dal President Rashidul Alam and convenor of Sadar upazila unit of Chhatra Dal Azharul Islam Labu addressed the rally.
Slain Faruque's brother filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station on December 2, accusing 11people, including several local Awami League men.
The case was later shifted to the Detective Branch of Police (DB) for investigation.
