Cops denied remand of Fakhrul
A Dhaka court today sent BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir back to jail after rejecting police’s prayer for remanding him in a case filed for torching the motorbike of a police sergeant at Paltan in the capital last month.
While passing the order, the court also rejected bail petition of the BNP leader.
The order came after detectives produced Fakhrul before the court after a five-day remand in the case filed for the January 5 arson attack.
After hearing both the defence and the prosecution, Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur rejected both the petitions.
The court however allowed police to interrogate the BNP leader at the jail gate.
The case was filed with Paltan police, accusing 51 leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 120 to 150 unnamed people.
