Clear visa, certificate complexities for jobs
Unemployed graduates of Bangladesh Marine Academy yesterday sought the prime minister's intervention in expediting visa processing and stopping issuance of fake certificates to give international shippers enough confidence to employ Bangladeshis.
At a human chain, followed by a rally, before the CGO building in the port city's Agrabad, they claimed that some 600 fresh graduates and 300 junior officers who had completed 12 months of service at sea were currently unemployed.
Maintaining warm relations with countries in world shipping and punitive measures against private marine institutions providing fake “Continuous Discharge Certificates”, a type of experience logbook of mariners issued under the shipping ministry, could bring about a positive change, they added.
