‘Youths should think logically to avoid being misled by militancy’
The young generation of the country cannot be misled to militancy if they can think everything logically, observed speakers at a programme in Dhaka today.
“Where militancy exists, the smooth movement of the progressiveness faces obstructions,” said Advocate Sultana Kamal, Chairperson of human rights watchdog Transparency International Bangladesh chapter (TIB) and a former adviser to the caretaker government.
Kamal was addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a four-day Prothom Alo-JDC National Debate Competition organised by Josephite Debating Club at St Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhaka.
Speakers opined that militants never believe in logic and they try to misguide people, especially the youths, to their dogmatic ideology whimsically.
“A logical person never believes in any narrow ideology. A person, who strongly respects humanity, can never be a militant,” Sultana Kamal said adding that the young generation cannot be misguided to militancy if they can practice tolerance and humanity in their daily life.
Young generation must be aware of any evil attempt of the militants so that none can disrupt the nation’s progressive movement, as militancy and corruption hinder the country’s democratic progress and development, she also said.
Addressing the youths, she said, “We will be able to stand against the militancy when we can reject it”.
The militants are corrupted because they never want to show any transparency in their activities rather they conspire to violate the universal human values secretly, she added.
Existence of corruption in different sectors like education may frustrate the people and the youths and then militants may mislead them, so it is essential to eradicate the root of corruption from all sectors, she observed.
The political leaders must be united to ensure the country’s democratic ruling and good governance to combat militancy, Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, chairman of Debate for Democracy, said while addressing the programme,
The youths must not be defeated because they have to lead the nation, Kiron also said, adding that the practice of debating will grow logic among the students.
St Joseph Higher Secondary School’s principal Brother Robi Purification, CSC, chaired at the programme.
A total of 64 teams are expected to take part in the inter-school, inter-college and children debating competition. The final competition will be held on next Sunday.
