Youth held over rape allegation

A youth was arrested early yesterday in Chunti area of Lohagara upazila in Chittagong for allegedly raping a madrasa student on Eid day.

The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Jahed, 20, a carpenter, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Jakir Hossen of Lohagara Police Station.

“Jahed was arrested in Chunti Bazar area after the victim's father filed a rape case against him,” said the SI.

On Eid day, Jahed forcibly picked up the girl while she was returning from her aunt's residence in Satghor area and took her to Chakoria upazila where he raped her, said Inspector (investigation) Abdul Jalil of the police station.

The girl was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and police arrested the alleged rapist, the police official said, adding that during primary interrogation Jahed admitted his crime.
