Woman, daughter die in road crash

Eight people were killed and three others injured in road crashes in the country in last two days.

A mother and her 12-year-old daughter were killed in a road accident in front of East-West Medical College Hospital on Ashulia Beribadh road on Thursday night.

The dead are Jasmin Akther, 40, wife of Fakhruddin Kabir, and Saba Moni. They used to live in Ashulia of Savar, Turag Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nurul Muthakin said.

The accident occurred when a covered van hit them. Police seized the vehicle but the driver managed to flee the scene, Nurul said.

A case was filed with Turag Police Station in this connection.

In Tangail, two persons were killed and three others injured as a passenger bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Tangail-Bhuapur road in Jodurpara area in Kalihati upazila yesterday afternoon.

The dead, Rony Begum, 26, and Tara Banu, both residents of Baro Binnaf village of Tangail Sadar upazila, were in the auto-rickshaw. The injured were admitted to Tangail General Hospital.

Meanwhile in Rajshahi, four persons were killed in three road accidents across the district yesterday, police said.

Nazrul Islam, 50, died on the spot when a speeding truck rammed his motorbike from behind on Rajshahi-Natore highway in Baneshwar of Puthia upazila, said Sayedur Rahman Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Puthia Police Station.

Hipzur Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, said Jewel Rana, 27, died when a truck hit his motorbike in Kamarpara area of the upazila.

Meanwhile, two unidentified persons were killed when a sand-laden truck  hit their motorbike from behind in Chongatala area of Charghat upazila, said Nibaran Chandra Barman, officer-in-charge of Charghat Police Station.

Separate cases were recorded with respective police stations.
