WHEN COLLECTING ALMS TURNS VIOLENT

What started as a squabble over collecting zakat turned violent as women started fighting among themselves. Soon, men also joined in. The incident took place next to Central Shaheed Minar around noon yesterday, where an organisation was supposed to distribute zakat among the destitute. According to witnesses, more than 100 people gathered in the area. As the news spread, the crowd got bigger. Quite a few of the zakat seekers were injured during the brawl. There were children too, many of whom were seen panicking and crying. Around 50 law enforcers finally brought the situation under control. A few were detained. Meanwhile, the organisation did not show up.
