Weather bill placed at JS
The “Abhawa (Weather) Bill, 2018”, was placed at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) last night.
This is the first-ever legal framework in the country to deal with the issues relating to the meteorological activities.
Law Minister Anisul Huq, also in charge of the defence ministry in the parliamentary affairs, placed the bill.
While placing the proposed law, Anisul Huq said aims of the bill are to give the Bangladesh Meteorological Department a legal shape.
The bill has sorted the activities and services of the department which mainly deals with the forecast of natural disasters and everyday weather patterns.
It has also defined the term “meteorology” and “meteorological phenomenon”, tsunami, earthquake and other natural disasters.
The bill has also defined the eligibility of the persons to be considered as the meteorological scientists.
According to the bill, all atmospheric events will be considered as the meteorological phenomenon.
Under the proposed law, Bangladesh Meteorological Department will have the authority to take training and conduct researches for the capacity-building of its manpower.
Meanwhile, the 20th session of the parliament will continue till Thursday.
