Vehicles choke Dhaka roads
Dhaka commuters had to suffer on the city roads today as most of the roads were jam-packed after the two-day national council of the ruling Awami League comes to an end.
Office-goers and students helplessly waited for buses and CNG-run autorickshaws and spent from at least 30 minutes to an hour more to reach their destinations.
Users in Facebook group ‘Traffic Alert’ posted several updates about the gridlocked roads all over the city.
“Supporters of ruling party are coming to Dhanmondi 3/A office to congratulate the newly elected members. Cars are parked everywhere on the Satmasjid road near 3/A party office and internal roads are totally blocked”, wrote FZ Chowdhury, a member of Traffic Alert, this afternoon.
Another member Jansher Al Sabah Khan wrote, “the road from Mirpur technical to Dhanmondi is completely blocked” at 6:00pm this evening.
Other major roads in the city were also affected by the unusual traffic congestion during the day. “Mohakhali-PM's Office-VIP road-Mirpur road in total lockdown” writes Iffat Sumaiya, at 5:30pm this evening.
