Two ‘robbers’ shot in capital

Two alleged robbers were injured when police shot them in the capital’s Kadamtali area early yesterday.

Md Jalal, 35, and Shamim, 25, with bullets in their right legs were admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor).

Acting on a tip-off that a gang of robbers assembled in Shyampur’s Khejurbagan area for robbery, police conducted a drive around 1:45am, said Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtali Police Station Abdul Jalil.

Sensing law enforcers’ presence, the robbers hurled Molotov cocktail forcing police to open fire on them, claimed Jalil.

Police recovered two Molotov cocktails, two machetes and four iron rods from the spot.

The gang was involved in the robbery committed at a house in Merajnagar of Kadamtali on January 19, police added.
