The Ecnec yesterday approved 10 projects including one for building religious institutions and other establishments throughout the country following recommendations of MPs.
The approval came at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. It allocated Tk 5,181 crore for the 10 projects.
Tk 665 crore has been allocated for the project, titled "Universal Social Infrastructure Development", under which mosques, Eidgahs, graveyards, temples, crematoriums, churches, pagodas and playgrounds will be constructed.
Each upazila would be allocated Tk one crore (total Tk 491 crore) and Tk 109 crore would be kept as lump sum allocation. The rest of the money would be spent as project related expenditure.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said apart from developing religious and sports infrastructures, long term employment opportunities will be created through the three-year project.
