Three Farmers Bank officials denied bail
A Dhaka court yesterday again rejected bail petitions of Rashedul Haque Chisty, son of former chairman of Farmers Bank Audit Committee Mahbubul Haque Chisty, and two others and sent them to jail in a Tk 160 crore graft case.
The accused are Rashedul Haque Chisty, Senior Vice President Zia Uddin Ahmed and First Vice President Masudur Rahman Khan.
Metropolitan Magistrate Raihan Ul Islam passed the order after Shamsul Alam, deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court.
Meanwhile, Mahabubul Haque Chisty has been placed on a five-day remand.
On April 10, Shamsul Alam filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against six persons, including the four and Mahbubul's wife Ruzi Chisty and ex-manager of the bank's Gulshan Corporate Branch Delwar Hossain.
Mahabubul Haque Chisty, his son and two others were arrested and placed on remand for different terms.
The court also rejected their bails and sent them to jail after lawyer moved separate bail petitions along with cancellation of the remand prayer.
Meanwhile, ACC yesterday submitted a seven-day remand prayer to quiz SM Nazmul Huq, chief engineer and surveyor of the Department of Shipping, in a bribery case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Pronab Kumar Hui fixed today for hearing the remand prayer.
On April 12, an ACC team arrested SM Nazmul Huq while he was allegedly taking bribe at a restaurant in Segunbagicha area. He was present at the court the following day and sent to jail.
