Three to die for Rajshahi boy murder
A Rajshahi court yesterday sentenced three persons to death in a case filed for killing a schoolboy after abduction three years ago.
Majedur Rahman Sagar, 21, Nazmul Haque, 22, Ripon Sarker, 24, of Berabari village in Mohonpur upazila were also fined Tk 20,000 each, said public prosecutor Entajul Haque.
Besides, Sagar's mother Asinur Begum, 42, was sentenced to imprisonment until death and was fined Tk 10,000.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Shirin Kabita Akter of Speedy Trial Tribunal delivered the verdict.
The tribunal, however, acquitted three other accused -- Shahabuddin, 22, Aminul Islam, 24, and Abul Kashem, 50 -- as they were not proven guilty of the allegations brought against them.
According to the prosecution, Fazle Hossain Rabbi, 10, a class III student in the area, was kidnapped on December 20, 2014.
The kidnappers decapitated Rabbi that night and severed his right arm before putting the body in a jute sack and dumping it in a drain in the village.
Two days later, the murderers called Rabbi's father, Ali Hossain, and demanded a Tk 10 lakh ransom.
The criminals, however, did not respond to Ali's attempt of paying the ransom on December 24.
The same day, he filed the case with Mohonpur Police Station.
