Test finds 23pc of food adulterated
Presence of chemicals harmful for public health has been traced in 23 percent of the food samples tested in the National Food Safety Laboratory at the Institute of Public Health (IPH).
IPH tested as many as 405 food samples during November 2015-June 2016, IPH Director AKM Zafarullah told The Daily Star yesterday.
Without divulging details, Zafarullah said when they first started testing food samples at the laboratory late last year they found higher level of toxic chemicals but this year they have found lesser presence of chemicals in the samples.
He said a detailed report on the tests of samples of foods like cauliflowers, beans, eggplants, amaranth, mango, grape, date etc would be shared at a meeting at IPH today.
