The teachers and employees of MPO-enlisted academic institutions continued their hunger strike for the third consecutive day yesterday demanding nationalisation of all private secondary and higher secondary educational institutions.

At least 67 of them fell sick so far, while three were hospitalised yesterday. However, the teachers said they would continue the protest until their demand is met.

Several hundred teachers and employees of the institutions have been continuing their strike in front of the capital's Jatiya Press Club since January 15.

Before that, under the banner of “Besharkari Sikkha Jatiyakaran Liaison Forum”, they started a sit-in programme from January 10.

Teachers and employees are deprived of proper salary increment and allowances although their workload is same as the government institutions, said Rofiqul Islam, joint secretary of the forum.

Quality of education will increase after the nationalisation, said Rofiqul, also a teacher of a secondary school in Comilla.
